ADVANTAGES

Dr. Giacomo Rappaccini is a pretty calm and collected person and seems to know what he is doing at all times in the story. Throughout the whole story he knows that he has trapped the boy in the garden to keep Beatrice away from being heart-broken. Beatrice says in her last words why have you done this horrible thing to me and her father explains that it was not a bad thing, it was to strengthen her so she was not a regular weak women unable to protect herself (Hawthorne, 315). The father seemed very calm in his speech to her withering body. This shows a feeling of pure evil and this was the fate that he had intended for his daughter for trying to disobey him. Dr. Rappaccini is a symbol expressing a feeling of evil.
