The word in Greek, , , is the dative plural of , , which means, according to the authoritative Liddell and Scott [Oxford, 1889, 1964], "word" or "phrase." My Greek grammar book, by Chase and Phillips [Harvard, 1965], gives the meaning as "word" or "command"; but "command," like "laws," seems to be more an interpretation than a translation.
