Both experiences made me want to learn more about Buddhism and how it factors into the Lao way of life. It is the religious belief of 65% of the population (with an additional 25% believing in a form of animism that is closely-related), and clearly a driving force in society. I had become accustomed to seeing monks walking the street and banana leaf alms being sold, but hadn’t really thought about the enormous spiritual influence that Buddism has here. So, I’m now determined to learn more about it and I’ll let you know what I find out!
